Have I…

Its that time again, its christmas day. I have just got back from church, we have a 11pm service. I enjoy the late service always nice but what I do love about my church is it is relaxed and friendly.

I have to say that this has been a interesting lead up to christmas not really to sure why but maybe its just because the lead up in shops starts mid november or what but I know that christmas is hear & I have been aware of it. Had the christmas cd in the car all that. We did have the christmas tree up late but I have missed christmas this year, was sititng in church going oh crap its christmas & not even thinking about the real meaning of christmas.

From the book of Matthew chapter 1

18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. 19Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”[d]—which means, “God with us.”

Luke 2
6 ….the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Nice to remember, even though the family & friends and the presents are important I need to remember the real meaning of christmas.

23 Sleeps

My prayer for Christmas

Best of all, Christmas means a spirit of love, a time when the love of God and the love of our fellow men should prevail over all hatred and bitterness, a time when our thoughts and deeds and the spirit of our lives manifest the presence of God.

Countdown to Christmas 24 Sleeps

Well! Its the 1st of December which means in the start of my coundtown to Chrimas, each day we will have another countdown to christmas.

So 24 Sleeps to Christmas.

I would like to quote a friend of mine Frank McKibben I very much agree with his quote, and my personal belief.

This is Christmas: not the tinsel, not the giving and receiving, not even the carols, but the humble heart that receives anew the wondrous gift, the Christ.

My new Christmas cd & Christmas Carol

Today I got a new cd….called the “Sharing the Spirit of the Season” it is performed by the “Australian Girls Choir & the National Boys Choir of Australia in support of CanTeen, proudly presented by Quantas.

I really like it, first for the choir it sounds very clear and nice. Out of the 11 charols on it has Little drummer boy (my fav!) Carol of the bells, the first noel, God rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Once In royal David’s City. That is great to have 5 of them “traditional” Jesus focussed songs you don’t really find that to much anymore and I like it!

This carol I love! it is really only done well when it is sung by a choir because all the way through the song, one group sing ding dong, then the other sings spit the song in to, so it sounds great!

Carol of the Bells is an adaptation of an ancient Ukrainian folk song called a “shchedrivka”. An arrangement by Mykola Leontovych (1877-1921) was popularized in the 1930’s by Oleksander Koshyts (1875-1944), a Ukrainian choir director who worked in the US and Canada. It has since become an American Christmas classic.

Carol of the Bells
Hark! how the bells
Sweet silver bells
All seem to say,
“Throw cares away.”
Christmas is here
Bringing good cheer
To young and old
Meek and the bold

Ding, dong, ding, dong
That is their song
With joyful ring
All caroling
One seems to hear
Words of good cheer
From ev’rywhere
Filling the air

Oh how they pound,
Raising the sound,
O’er hill and dale,
Telling their tale,
Gaily they ring
While people sing
Songs of good cheer
Christmas is here
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas

On, on they send
On without end
Their joyful tone
To ev’ry home

(repeat from the beginning)

Ding, dong, ding, dong.

Oporto Continuted: Baby Jesus ban lifted

Baby Jesus ban lifted

By BEN SHARKEY and MARK SKELSEY

December 1, 2004

A FAST food chain yesterday admitted it was overzealous in its pursuit of political correctness when it banned one of its Sydney stores from displaying a traditional Christmas nativity scene.

Last Thursday, Westfield Hornsby Oporto franchise owner Charlie Saliba was told to remove his nativity scene – depicting baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, the Three Wise Men and a shepherd – for fear it would offend non-Christian customers.

Mr Saliba, a Catholic, said: “I am Maltese and we are very much into our Christmas decorations . . .

they told me take it down and I thought it was a shame because, without a nativity scene, it’s not Christmas.

“I’ve been putting the nativity scene up for the past 3½ years and have not had one complaint. I have had a lot of compliments.”

Oporto chief executive Jeff Fisher had previously told The Daily Telegraph the chain supported generic decorations over nativity scenes because Australia was a multicultural society and it would be wrong to push any one religious belief.

Mr Fisher was singing a different tune yesterday after a wave of public opinion.

“The issue [of the nativity scene] is obviously something the community feels very strongly about,” he said. “We have listened to the community and corrected the situation.

“We are guilty of being over-sensitive by wanting to keep the decorations to a general nature. We tried to be politically correct and that was overzealous.”

Yesterday morning the nativity scene, which cost $500 to construct, was returned to its pride of place next to the shop’s second most sacred object: the chip machine.

Regular customer Noreen Dillon, 65, said it was good to see sanity prevail.

“I think sometimes people are afraid of upsetting minority groups, who in reality don’t care about the nativity scenes anyway,” the Wahroonga resident said. “I have Muslim neighbours and they wish me a happy Christmas so what’s the big deal?”

Mr Saliba who said Muslim and Jewish staff had not complained about the nativity scene and were happy to have it in the store.

Keysar Trad, a director of the Australian Lebanese Muslim Association, said Muslims would have no objection to nativity scenes.

“We celebrate the life of Christ and see him as one of the five greatest people who ever lived and a prophet of God,” he said.

Westfield public relations manager Julia Clark said most of the company’s shopping centres had nativity scenes.

The only two without were because of space, she said. Even Bankstown Square, amid a large population of non-Christian backgrounds, has a nativity scene.

Oporto & Christmass

if anybody knows me at all, they would know that the only thing that I eat in while in the Hornsby foodcourt is Oporto. A few days ago while getting my normal meal and as always having a good chat to Charlie the owner I said that his navity seen had disapeared from the left of the store. Charlie then told me that head office today told him that he had to remove them.

I then got home this evening and my mother told me that Charlie was on channel nine. What happen is that after a few phone calls to radio stations this issue got on to the radio and then channel nine picked it up after a backflip from Oporto head office they have now allowed charlie to have the navity seen in his store. Go the true meaning of christmas!

Christmas Carols

Well as the lead up to christmas happens it is time that I start to high light some of my favourate christmas carols: The first one will be Little Drummer boy the reason this is number one is that I was the drummer of the song when I was in pre-school and my parrents came along to see me which made me very happy!

I have tried to included a introduction of the song and then the song lyrics.

Little Drummer Boy!
The words and music to the Christmas song Little Drummer Boy was composed by Katherine K. Davis, Henry Onorati and Harry Simeone in 1958. The lyrics of Little Drummer Boy consist of no less than 21 rum pum pum pum’ - a major part of the song and therefore presenting an apparently easy task for the lyricist! However, Little Drummer Boy has been a huge hit for several artists. The most notable rendition was created by the most unlikely combination of Bing Crosby and David Bowie. This version of Little Drummer Boy was a massive hot for the artists and was in fact Bing Crosby’s most successful recording since the legendary White Christmas.

Little Drummer Boy: Lyrics
Come they told me, pa rum pum pum pum
A new born King to see, pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pum pum pum
To lay before the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

So to honor Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
When we come.

Little Baby, pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too, pa rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring, pa rum pum pum pum
That’s fit to give the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum pum,
On my drum?

Mary nodded, pa rum pum pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum.

Its Christmas, My Belt, Quote of the day 2, Howie & My Stats

christmasmall.JPG

Yes it is Christmas time, the mall huge Christmas tree is up, it went up late last week but I have been to lazy to resize the picture until tonight so there you go. I do enjoy Christmas, getting into the festive mood and yes as Howie & Jenny know I love decorations, and lots of them!

It is my meaning in life make sure that they are every where there are decorations. When you open a draw there is at least something Christmassy in it.

Howie & Jenny love it especially the bit where I put staples in a wall using a staple gun, then make sure they damage as much as possible, today at work we found more staples I think we will be finding my staples to the building is removed

This afternoon my belt died :( not the best thing while at work is it, so to keep my pants up I used a 25metre rope to do so, and for the rest of the afternoon this rope followed behind me, much to Steve & Robs amusement especially when the tied into onto a door handle, or just step on it! Not funny, I then found a piece of string, so come to Commy pub to see my new belt.

Today’s Quote of the day
“I’ll sleep when I’m dead.”
- Warren Zevon (1947-2003)

Since posting a picture of Howie been snapped by stats have gone up about 100% over the last 2 days, but in reflection anytime I say anything about Howie my stats go up, so with my quote of the day I am going to aim to say Howie once and once a week that’s Howie.
